After the death of Fanny, the family has decided to sell the shop and the land and it closed yesterday. No more tea stops for the Saturday afternoon longer ride.
Keen hill climbers will now have to find another reason to ascend Hazelwood Lane. So far as I know the nearest cafe will now be in Merstham at the bottom of the North Downs which will mean having to come back up Markedge Lane.
To avoid having to descend to Merstham for a cafe, once the hill is climbed, carry on along the ridge to the view from the top of Reigate Hill where there is a refreshment van.
