Seven into Eight does go (at a squeeze); Nonsuch Beginners 11 February

Report by Paul

Now the weather is slowly improving, the attendances at Nonsuch have diminished a little and there were only seven of us on Saturday so Lynda, who had turned up to run the shorter ride, decided to opt in with the rest of us, aiming for Eight on the River at Molesey.

We went via Kingston and Bushy Park and we came back via Weston Green, thus visiting some of the most scenic photo opportunities; and we decided to take advantage.

The traffic was extraordinarily light; perhaps everybody has disappeared elsewhere for half term.

Molesey Boat Club, on the other hand, was packed to the rafters; they had a regatta and it was quite exciting, the risk of being Laurel and Hardy'd by the swinging end of a boat fresh out of the water, or decapitated by a blade carried by a rower with an armful of oars.  Normally we feel we are keeping the place going but not this time around!  The bar serving beer rather than coffee, which seemed a problem for some until they told us that we were always welcome and if we went into the members' bar we could have our coffee and cake.  In the members' bar were volunteers selling absolutely delicious homemade cakes for pence and tea and coffee for a pound.  And it was good to see the place buzzing.

Home via Weston Green, where it transpired that one of our group had been hanging back not through lack of ability but because she was riding on uninflated tyres.  No name, no pack drill!  Soon remedied.

A pleasant trip for all, I think, even if I am probably biased.
