A request from Mags McKinlay
Please see the link below to a short video we at Wandsworth Cycling Campaign have made about the Earlsfield missing link on the Wandle Trail.
I would like to encourage people, particularly those resident in Merton or Wandsworth, to write to their local Councillors asking for the missing link to be sorted. Also, if people could share the video as widely as possible with their local communities, e.g. street WhatsApp groups , community organisations etc.
Any help you can give with this would be much appreciated. Hope to see you soon on a ride.
Best wishes
Mags

Associated https://www.cprelondon.org.uk/news/lets-fix-the-wandle-trail-missing-link/ "Let's fix the Wandle Trail missing link" that has a petition with 3699 signatures to date and links to a feasibility study £1.1M proposal - but that dates back years.
ReplyDeletePersonally, from the Wandsworth end, leaving the Athletics field outside loop cycle lane at the Forest housing estate exit, cross the footbridge into that and turning right leads you into St John's Drive (that does involve 3 sets of cobble stones sections). At the end of St John's Drive Cross over Garratt Lane and that has a cycle lane that takes you near enough to the Earlsfield railway Bridge. Personally I prefer to dismount prior to the bridge and walk the bike under the Earlsfield railway bridge, crossing over at the pedestrian crossing and then walking the bike up and right into Summerley Street where I remount and continue the ride (usually a quiet side-street).
Similar in the opposite direction, at the end of Summerley Street dismount, turn left into Garratt Lane and under the railway bridge, continuing on and remounting again when the road widens, and continue straight on until the right bend/curve in the road where you turn left into Summerley Street (at the end of which there's a path that takes you across a footbridge and into the Athletics fields outside loop cycle lane).
The issue could have been fixed when the new building was built in Trewint Street, under the old railway bridge near there, but wasn't. I suspect for technical, boundary and political reasons (borders Merton/Wandsworth where Merton tends to be Labour controlled, Wandsworth is Conservative biased).
Correction: not "Forest" housing estate, should have read "Fosters"
